Guided village tours Beynac-et-Cazenac Tours of the village, with commentary, are run from June 15th to September 15th : on Thursday at 10h30. The tour lasts about 1¼ hours and takes visitors through the different quarters of Beynac (officially classed as one of the loveliest villages in France).Beynac is a medieval village, clinging to a steep cliff dominated by its famed 900-year-old castle. Each quarter, or “barri”, has reminders of the different activities which were once centred there, such as water transport, fishing, wood crafts or the cultivation of hemp.... not forgetting this fortified village’s former rôle in controlling river traffic through the Dordogne Valley. La Roque Gageac Escorted tours of the village, are run from June 15th to September 15th : on Wednesday at 21h30. The tours, with commentary, last about one hour. La Roque-Gageac, where the powerful Bishops of Sarlat installed their summer palace, was once strongly fortified. With troglodytic defences built high up in the cliff face, a castle (of which a few traces are still visible), and a network of tiny streets between the houses, ideal for ambushes, the village defied capture for many centuries - even during the Hundred Years War. Later, it enjoyed important activities connected with the river, including boat building and commercial fishing. Today, its gentle way of life and mild climate have made it one of the most sought-after holiday centres throughout the region. Tarifs Individual: free. Groupes (20 pers. minimum) : 3 €/pers.
